Top Ten Bookish Gifts on My Wishlist

Top Ten Tuesday is a book blogging prompt hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. I don’t participate every week, but I join in when I find the prompt interesting. This week everyone is sharing bookish items they want to own, and believe me, I had no problems coming up with this list! Some items are practical, some are fashionable, some are expensive, and some are reasonable. I’d love to receive any of these as gifts!

Ranganathan’s Mitts

Sharon Fuller | Ravelry ranganathansmitts1_small2 I *really* want these fingerless gloves (it gets cold in the office!). I don’t knit, so I also need someone to knit them for me.

Literary Notebooks

ObviousState | Etsy notebooks I already have a t-shirt from this shop, but I’d love these set of notebooks!

Revolving Bookcase

Pottery Barn revolving bookcase I *need* this. It spins, and it would be fun for displaying my favorite novels and other ephemera.

Newspaper Scarf

Kate Spade kate spade newspaper scarf My favorite color combo is black, white, and hot pink, I love Kate Spade scarves, and I still love the feel of a Sunday Times newspaper in print. Basically this scarf was made for me. If I had this one, I’d be less sad that I didn’t get last fall’s bookshelf print scarf (but I shouldn’t complain since I did get the card catalog tote from that collection).

“Don’t Speak Latin in Front of the Books” Quote Cross-stitch Pattern

CapesandCrafts | Etsy latin in books I actually think cross-stitching is fun! We’re going to do some at the library, I believe. This pattern is perfect for me. Bonus points if you can name the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode where this quote appears.

1984 Sweatshirt

Out of Print Tees 1984 sweatshirt   I have several Out of Print tees, but not a sweatshirt!

Book Riot Quarterly Box

book riot They send you a surprise package of bookish things every few months. What is more fun than that?

Reading Sofa

Urban Outfitters sofa This is probably not the *exact* one I would choose, but you get the idea.

Typewriter Kindle Case

Amazon | Verso by Molly Rausch   typewriter kindle case   My Kindle case is looking a little beat up; I adore this rose colored leather embossed with a typewriter.

True Story Tattoo

Inspired by the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor

I’ve been thinking for several years about getting a literary tattoo. I’d want something simple, and something that isn’t just a quote. I also want one that isn’t immediately recognizable; it has to only make sense to people who have read the books. In Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Karou has the words “true” and “story” tattooed on her wrists.  When friends and acquaintances exhibit disbelief that her hair grows out of her head blue or that the monsters in her sketchbook are real, she shows them her wrists. I’m planning on getting the above images (or something similar) for my next tattoo. It will be like Karou’s, only  I’m going to add a feather and a wishbone to mine. smallgraydots

What is on your bookish wishlist? What literary tattoo would best suit you?

  1. That bookcase …. I cannot even take how amazing that is! It’s immediately going on my Christmas wish list – maybe I can save up enough money by then?? This list is pretty amazing, Molly. (My checkbook is crying right now though, that’s for sure.)

Here’s my bookish wishlist!. &&As for literary tattoos, I’ve always thought about getting the spider and the cricket from the Mercer Mayer Little Critter series. My brothers and I loved those books:)

    Great list, Molly:)

    1. What kind of mugs do you have? I actually looked through Etsy for one, and I really need new coffee cups (they are always disappearing!) and I found a couple of Harry Potter ones or Game of Thrones ones, but nothing that screamed “mine!” I think I’m going do that paint pen thing and make my own. (also, hi!)

      1. Hi! Sorry I’ve been a hermit, haha. During my baby’s naps, I’m writing a new book that I think you’ll like. When I get to a point that people can read it (in a few months maybe?) I’ll send it your way. :) Anyway… I have two writer mugs (I think from Zazzle?) One just says “Writer” and one is fashioned after Castle’s bullet-proof WRITER vest. One was a gift from my sister and one was a gift from my mother-in-law.

  2. You had to post those mitts, didn’t you? Well I just downloaded the pattern and I’d be glad to knit you a pair — right, I know you don’t know me, but it would be fun to indulge in a little harmless wish fulfillment. It may take a while, but it’ll be fun. The pattern has three sizes by hand circumference: 7.5″, 8″, 8.5″. Let me know what would fit you the best and if you have any color preferences.

    1. OMG, I would be beyond thrilled if you really wanted to knit a pair! I get freezing cold in the winter but can’t type with gloves on, so I have this crappy pair of $1 gloves I cut the tips off of and they are all frazzled and I basically look like a hobo at my desk. It would pretty much make my year. I have average sized hands and would pretty much love any color!

      1. Done — I’ve been looking for things to reignite my knitting mojo and these look to be perfect! I’ll let you know once they’re ready to head your way.

  3. Oh my goodness, I love so many of these!! Especially the set of notebooks, the revolving bookcase, and that absurdly expensive Kate Spade scarf. I have the Master & Margarita tee from Out of Print and I always get compliments on it!

    1. Isn’t that scarf ridiculously expensive? I’ve only ever purchased anything Kate Spade when it’s on super sale! I love when I meet people with Out of Print tees…it immediately signals that we’re meant to be friends!
