Rewind: September 2013

Where did the month go! I knew I’d be busy when school started, but I didn’t realize the extent. Now that I’m used to my 4:15am alarm clock 4 days a week, I think I’ll have some more time to devote blogging.

I reviewed a frightening number of books this month. Just four, and I didn’t even get all my Classics Retold posts done, so I’m still planning on at least one more in the next few weeks.

Here’s what I did manage to review:

And I had a couple other posts:

So what did I do all month?

I have listened to a bunch of audiobooks and even managed to read a couple, but I haven’t had time to formulate complete reviews, so they are all still sitting in note form in my drafts.

Mostly, I’ve been planning the apocalpyse! I received a YALSA Teen Read Week grant for programming, so my library is bringing Mike Mullin, author of Ashfall, for a talk. We’re also having a Choose Your Own Apocalyse live-action scavenger and puzzle hunt game that will lead teens all over town in an attempt to “survive” the challenges inspired by post-apocalpytic novels. Each team chooses whether they want to face a horde of zombies, a supervolcano explosion that wreaks havoc on the environment, a civil rebellion in response to a repressive government, or an alien invasion.

What else has been going on this month? Here are some highlights.

I saw Mumford & Sons in concert…and they were amazing! I decorated the children’s room for Turtle in Paradise for Read Across Lawrence…and got to help out with RAL for Kids programming. I read matching textbooks with Mister BS (how cute are we with our special ed and information science selves?) I got my Raven Cycle books signed and bought a few of my favorites to add to my personal library.  The highlight, you ask? Watching Veronica Mars with Spike.

Next month, I plan to bring back Feminist Fridays, review more books, and share my presentation for my state library conference. I also hope to formulate some thoughts on working with teens in a school library versus a public library and as well as some thoughts on my first semester of library school.

What have you been up to this month? What are you looking forward to in October?

  1. Now see, you were WAY more productive than me, and I hardly got any books read/reviewed either! It’s so much fun to hear about all of the things you’re doing in your library now though–grats on your grant! I too have been getting through more audiobooks, but not so much reviewing them. *whistles*

However, I did finally start watching Buffy again and am in the final season, which means next I have to track down some Veronica Mars!

    1. Thanks!
I think I have a harder time reviewing audiobooks because I don’t take notes while I read. Need to figure that out.
Isn’t Buffy the best? Veronica Mars is perfect for Buffy fans. It’s like a modern noir detective story in high school. I am in love with it. You should definitely check it out!

  2. You saw Mumfords & Sons? Ahhhh I’m so jealous! Glad to know you had a great time though! I want a signed copy of The Raven Cycle books too ahhh! Anyway… am I the only person on Earth who hasn’t watched Veronica Mars yet? Should I go and watch it already?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.
