Top Ten Tuesday is a book blogging prompt hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. I don’t participate every week, but I join in when I find the prompt interesting. This week’s topic is authors you want to meet.
I’ve had the opportunity to meet lots of amazing authors. Actually, a lot of my favorites, I’ve already met. Holly Black. Scott Westerfeld. emily m. danforth. Some multiple times. Maggie Stiefvater, Laini Taylor, Rainbow Rowell… hell, some of my favorite authors, like Mary O’Connell, Laura Moriarty, and Tessa Gratton, actually live in my hometown so I see them at like, say, the grocery store or my regular pizza spot.
But there are some that I haven’t yet had the opportunity to meet and I hope that one day I do!
Annie Cardi, author of The Chance You Won’t Return
Annie is the queen of gifs, and seems like an all-around fun person via social media! I’ve been following her blog since before her book deal and then I was scared to read her book because what if I didn’t like it? And then it was amazing! But mostly I think it would be fun to talk about books (and gifs).
Kristin Cashore, author of the Graceling Realm Series
I don’t even know how I would be able to talk to Kristin Cashore because her books are so phenomenal. Seriously.
Melina Marchetta, author of The Lumatere Chronicles and more
Basically when do I get to go to an author event in Australia because that would be amazing and Melina Marchetta would be the highlight.
Nova Ren Suma, author of Imaginary Girls, The Walls Around Us, and more
So I just really just think Nova Ren Suma is an amazing writer and it would be amazing to hear her speak about craft.
Becky Albertalli, author of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda
Simon was my favorite debut of this year (so far but it would be hard to top). And she seems so fun and genuine and I think it would be great to chat with her.
Carrie Mesrobian, author of Sex & Violence, Cut Both Ways, and more
Carrie Mesrobian is a phenomenal writer, and she gets teenagers, and she just seems so real. She’s done a guest post here before, and I interviewed her for The Hub, and it would be fun to meet her IRL.
Lauren Gibaldi, author of The Night We Said Yes
I haven’t even read Lauren’s debut, which comes out this summer. But she’s a librarian and I’ve followed her blog and social media since before her book deal, too. And she seems fun! I’m saving her book for my beach reads trip when I spend two weeks in California this summer. Because it just seems like perfect for Malibu reading.
Trish Doller, author of Where the Stars Still Shine, The Devil You Know, and more
I love her books and also she seems really cool. I mean her tumblr is so full of beauty how can she not be.
Roxane Gay, author of Bad Feminist and An Untamed State
So I had a dream we had Roxane Gay in conversation with Rainbow Rowell as a library event, and ever since then it has been my goal to make it happen. It would be the ultimate author event, I tell you.
Curtis Sittenfeld, author of Prep, An American Wife, and more
If I had to pick one author who has inspired me more than any other, it would probably be Curtis Sittenfeld. The way she structures novels and reveals the internal lives of her characters is just…how I want to write. I had a chance to meet her at Rainy Day Books when she was on tour for Sisterland, but something came up. So I hope one day I get the chance again.
This is just ten…I love going to author events, so this is not by any stretch an all-encompassing list.
What authors would you most love to meet?
